Copenhagen Cooking Festival – The Winter Edition

January 31, 2013 | By More

The winter edition, and the ninth year, of the Copenhagen Cooking Festival starts tomorrow, 1st February, and runs for the entire month.

This winter edition is part of Wonderful Copenhagen’s umbrella festival, ‘Wondercool’, which, along with food events, also encompasses fashion, design, art, architecture, rock and jazz.

Featuring a tribute to some of the best seasonal ingredients, the cooking festival has something to please all palettes.

One such seasonal ingredient that is taking centre stage at the festival is blue mussel – the blue gold – which is fresh and delicious during the cold months. Under the name Blue Gold, you can experience a gastronomic sailing tour in the harbour, where restaurants like M/S America, Lumskebugten, Viva and Søren K cook dishes with the blue mussel at the centre of the cooking. If you prefer to stay on dry land then you can also meet bicycles serving soup with mussels in the inner city.

Another new initiative, which kicks off during the Copenhagen Cooking Festival, is MAD Mondays. Here, you can participate in a monthly, informal get-together and discuss the food culture while learning about the future of food and gastronomy. The event is free, and to keep attendees nourished, beer from Mikkeller and homemade soup will be served.

There are more than 70 events to immerse yourself in during the Copenhagen Cooking winter edition such as cocktail courses, children’s baking classes, a liquorice festival and pop-up restaurants. Three of the pop-up events are created by ‘I’m a Kombo’, ‘Rødder’ and ‘Silver.Spoon’, and will challenge your notions of what a restaurant visit involves.

Discounted meals will be available at certain outlets along with street stands and pop-up kitchens in the metro, and others offering rare chances to look behind the scenes or meet the chefs.

To take advantage of the special offers or to attend any of the events you must book in advance. Most are date-specific and places tend to go fast, so check the website www.copenhagencooking.com for details.
