Travelplan Investments Ltd, the company that owns Abbey Travel, has been acquired by Next Century Travel Investments Ltd, a company owned by Liam Lonergan, who also owns Club Travel, Ireland’s largest travel agency.
Abbey Travel was established in 1978 by its present owner Con Horgan who will continue as Non-Executive Chairman under the new ownership.
Abbey Travel, with head office in Dublin and branches in Swords, Naas and Killarney, has annual sales in excess of €20 million. It operates exclusively in leisure travel specialising in Australia and long-haul flights, adventure holidays, sports travel, and Disneyland Paris, as well as cruises and traditional sun holidays. Its corporate travel division was sold to Flight Centre Travel Group in 2014.
