Wordchoice Ireland has appointed Don Shearer as its new Chief Executive. Don is a well-known figure in the Irish trade and will be bringing his years of experience as well as his energy and enthusiasm to the role.
Don brings vast experience across a range of business disciplines. His career in the travel and leisure sector commenced with Chieftain Tours as Sales and Marketing Manager in 1989 and in 1992 he moved to American Holidays/Atlas Travel to develop corporate, tour operating and retail account management strategies. Head hunted in 1996, Don then took up the role of Sales Director with Falcon Holidays in Ireland, developing commercial partnerships across retail and wholesale segments of the market.
He then moved to the position of Director of Sales and Distribution in 2002 where he led the establishment of Falcon Ireland’s distribution strategy, developing retail, franchise, call centre, web and third party strands before completing a successful integration of the business in 2010.
In 2011, along with two former colleagues from Falcon, he set up Aura Business Consulting gaining invaluable experience in a number of varied industries and has now left this venture to focus full time on Worldchoice Ireland.
Don will take up the position on 14th October 2013 and will be working from a new office based in Malahide Travel’s home at the Dublin Airport Business Park.
Under Don’s stewardship the group will be making some changes over the coming months that will bring many new benefits to existing and new members.
As a result of the new development demands for Worldchoice Ireland and the extra time and effort required, Garry Zancanaro indicated that he could not give a commitment of five days per week based in Dublin. He has agreed to see out his workload until the end of December, including running the conference on Saturday 30th November.
The Chairman, the Board and Worldchoice members would like to thank Garry for his distinguished efforts over the past number years and wish him the very best for the future.
