Dubai Wins Bid to Host World Expo 2020

Dubai has been successful in its bid to host Expo 2020 – see http://expo2020dubai.ae/en/ . It is a huge boost to the emirate, with an estimated 25 million visitors projected to visit the exhibition.

The voting was held in Paris on 28th November, with Dubai winning all three rounds. Dubai’s bid was based around the themes of mobility, opportunity and sustainability. The win was celebrated throughout the emirate, with the next day being declared a national holiday.

To celebrate the win, Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan scaled the spire of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa (http://metro.co.uk/2013/11/28/prince-of-all-he-surveys-dubai-royal-climbs-burj-khalifa-4206755/) .
