easyJet celebrates 10th anniversaries of services from Belfast International Airport to Glasgow and Edinburgh

The 10th anniversary of the launch of the airline’s route from Belfast International Airport to Glasgow will be this Sunday 21st August – and on 3rd September easyJet will have completed 10 years of flying from the airport to Edinburgh. Over the decade, 3.1 million passengers have flown on the Glasgow route – and 2.9 million have been going to Edinburgh.

Ali Gayward, easyJet Commercial Manager, said: “We are delighted that our Glasgow and Edinburgh routes have been very successful, and have helped make easyJet Northern Ireland’s favourite airline. The two cities have always been big attractions for business people, holidaymakers going on short breaks or longer stays, and sports fans.

“There has also been significant business and tourism traffic from Scotland into Northern Ireland, and with our focus on making travel easy and affordable, and the introduction of products such as our new Flexi fare, we see this demand increasing.”

Uel Hoey, Business Development Director at Belfast International Airport, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating this milestone with easyJet as both Glasgow and Edinburgh have continuously featured in our Top 10 most popular routes.

easyJet truly revolutionised the traditional experience for the travelling public between Northern Ireland and Scotland when they launched these two routes in 2001. Today we continue to observe easyJet’s commitment to low fares and a flexible schedule, fortifying the long-established business and cultural links between the two cities and Northern Ireland.”

easyJet’s new service to Manchester will start on 21st October, and extra flights have been added to its Amsterdam and Geneva routes. Next year, flights to London Southend will start on 2nd April, adding to existing London services to Gatwick, Luton and Stansted.
