Lufthansa Cancels Over 500 Flights

Lufthansa cancelled over 500 flights today, including much of the morning’s domestic and European flight schedule, due to strikes by ground staff at airports across Germany. The walkouts started today (Thursday 21st March) at 03.00 GMT and continued until late morning.

The Verdi union and Lufthansa are to meet tomorrow (Friday) to discuss Verdi’s demand for a 5.2% increase over the next year for 33,000 Lufthansa employees. Verdi says Lufthansa’s call for a two-year pay freeze until January 2015 and the extension of the work week by an hour is unacceptable.
