Mexico Wants More Irish Visitors

Mexico wants more Irish visitors was the message to the trade and the media at Meet Mexico, yesterday’s well attended function hosted by HE the Mexican Ambassador to Ireland, Carlos Garcia de Alba, and organised by the Mexico Tourism Board.

Last year more than 15,000 Irish visitors went to Mexico and already preliminary figures show that there has been a 22% increase for January – April of this year compared to the same period last year. Present at the event were the Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau, Royal Occidental Hotel & Resorts, Barcelo Hotels and Resorts, AM Resorts, Velas Resorts Mexico, Rosewood Hotels, and ground handlers Viajes Meca and Welcome Incoming Services.

Ambassador  Carlos de Garcia Alba said: “The main reason that Irish people are drawn to Mexico maybe our superb beaches, however once they get there they discover the warmth of the Mexican people, our rich cultural heritage and the abundance of activities that Mexico offers.”

At the event the Deputy Director of the Mexico Tourism Board in London, Lupita Ayala, announced a new flight to the Mexico Pacific coast (Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit) by TUI in summer 2014, from London Gatwick and Manchester.

The atmosphere was certainly enhanced by the wonderful Mariachi band.

Cancun is currently Mexico’s number one destination, according to Jesus Almaguguer, Chief Executive of Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau, who said: “We have just celebrated our 43rd anniversary and would like to invite travellers to discover the vast nature , culture and gastronomy of our region.”

The PR for the event was handled by Maria Slye of The Tourist Office.

Mexico certainly has a lot to offer the Irish visitor.
