Thomas Muldoon Wins His Way to 2016 Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup

Thomas Muldoon was victorious as the latest stage of the 2016 Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup, golf’s largest and most exciting amateur tournaments, took place on the Palmer Ryder Cup Course at the K Club. The 21st of 100 qualifiers for the global event, which has gone from strength to strength since the inaugural tournament in 2013, featured 73 players, all personally-invited guests of Turkish Airlines.

Thomas won the individual Stableford competition with an incredible 43 points and progresses to the Grand Final in Antalya, Turkey, this October and November. Former Westlife member and half of the newly formed Boyzlife, Brian McFadden, was runner-up with a score of 40 points while Clem Walshe from Lowcostbeds finished third on 38 points. Anne Nolan and Keith O’Riley, meanwhile, won the nearest-the-pin prizes.

“We would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup qualifier in Ireland,” said Murat Balandi, General Manager for Turkish Airlines Ireland. “It was a brilliant day and well done to our winner, Thomas – we look forward to seeing you in Antalya in October.”

The first qualifiers took place in Dar Es Salaam, Mumbai and Doha in February and the 2016 series takes place across the globe, in destinations including Hong Kong, Britain, South Korea, Japan, China, Spain, the USA, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, Argentina, Brazil and Turkey.

The overall winners of the Grand Final progress to play in the 2016 Turkish Airlines Open pro-am, while all finalists are to enjoy an eight-night stay in an all-inclusive hotel.

The event is backed by Global Sponsors the Financial Times, with Conte of Florence Official Clothing and Fashion Partner.

Turkish Airlines, which was recently voted Best Airline in Europe for the fifth consecutive year, as well as World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge and World’s Best Business Class Lounge Dining in 2015, launched the World Golf Cup in 2013.

It featured 12 qualifying events and was won by China’s Han Liang. His prize for victory was partnering world number one and 14-time major champion Tiger Woods in the Turkish Airlines Open pro-am. The 2015 winner, Neill Bam from Johannesburg, proved successful in the 2015 series and went on to partner Rory McIlroy, a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Repro Free: Thursday 21st July, Dublin Airport:
Aer Lingus welcomed a piece of Irish aviation history into its hangar at Dublin airport today as it received a Douglas DC-3 aircraft hailing from the 1940s and 50s and freshly painted in the Aer Lingus livery of that era. The DC-3 was the fifth aircraft type to be operated by Aer Lingus in 1940 and at that time was part of a fleet of just 5, while today’s fleet now stands at 63 aircraft operating more than 100 routes to UK, Europe and North America. The DC-3 aircraft will feature in Bray Air Display and Foynes Air Show this weekend.
