Travel Fun Day 5-Aside Registration Now Open

Travel Fun Day 5-Aside Registration Now Open

Excitement is growing in the travel industry for the 2016 Travel Fun Day, which will take place on Sunday 28th August 2016 at Wanderers Rugby Football Club, Merrion Road, Dublin 4.

Registration has opened for the 5-aside football. Already Aer Lingus, Blue Insurance, E Travel, Sunway Holidays and Topflight have registered. Ciaran Mulligan said: “It’s an all-out battle for the proper 5-Aside Trophy this year as there is no bubble-ball included in this year’s event. Blue Insurance are the reigning champions and plan to hold on to the trophy if possible. Teams are already in training, with Yvonne Muldoon, David O’Grady, Philip Airey and Jason Whelan already off the chocolate and on the fruit (allegedly).”

The 5-aside football is very popular, so teams wishing to compete should register now at http://www.travelfunday.ie/event-registration/ as there are only 16 teams (in four groups) in this year’s 5-aside. There must be one lady on the team of five and two substitutes. (Trainers only to be worn!)

The committee are calling on more support from the travel industry to sponsor this year’s event as the target is €70,000 and there are many worthwhile charities. They would like see more of the industry get behind this event, which is the only dedicated charity event across the industry. Silver sponsorship is €1,500 and Headline sponsorship is €3,000.

In addition to the usual fun games, a new nine-hole mini-golf is being added, together with more inflatables and games.

People are now being encouraged to get involved in the event in any way that they can, especially volunteers on the day. If you wish to become a volunteer, email sharon.lyons@travelport.com

Repro Free: Thursday 21st July, Dublin Airport:
Aer Lingus welcomed a piece of Irish aviation history into its hangar at Dublin airport today as it received a Douglas DC-3 aircraft hailing from the 1940s and 50s and freshly painted in the Aer Lingus livery of that era. The DC-3 was the fifth aircraft type to be operated by Aer Lingus in 1940 and at that time was part of a fleet of just 5, while today’s fleet now stands at 63 aircraft operating more than 100 routes to UK, Europe and North America. The DC-3 aircraft will feature in Bray Air Display and Foynes Air Show this weekend.
