Vietnam has been increasing international visitor numbers, but the recent decision to increase the visa fee from US$25 to a whooping $45, making it the highest visa fee of any of the ASEAN countries, is bound to affect this.
Vietnam received some six million international visitors from January to November 2012, a year-on-year increase of 11.4%. However, visitor arrivals from traditional western markets such as Europe have remained flat.
The Government has announced a target of two million tourists by 2020 to the country’s largest island of Phu Quoc.
